St Lucia boasts some of the finest scenery in the Caribbean this picture book Caribbean island has honey coloured beaches and coral reefs, sulphur springs and magnificent waterfalls but perhaps most impressive are its jungle-clad volcanic peaks, the Pitons, which rise dramatically from the sea.
St Lucia's stunning scenery is green and lush with verdant valleys and banana plantations, while French influences can be seen in the architecture, street names and local language.
The historic capital of Castries is a must-see, with its exquisitely decorated cathedral and colourful rum shops. Marvel at Soufriere's famous "drive-in" volcano, a rocky lunar landscape of bubbling mud and sulphur, and the Diamond Waterfall in the Botanical Gardens where bubbling sulphur-rich water changes colour - from yellow to black to green to grey - several times a day.
Other points of interest include St. Lucia's first national park, Pigeon Island, located in the northwest which is joined to the mainland by a causeway it’s home to a centre of artefacts with information on local history, it offers panoramic views of the mainland and the Caribbean Sea. Don’t miss Marigot Bay where 'Dr Dolittle was filmed and where you will find many luxurious yachts moored.
St Lucia also has some exciting experiences to offer nature lovers, who may be lucky enough to spot the leatherback turtles who come ashore between mid-March and September to nest.
St Lucia is a paradise for those who enjoy an active holiday from championship golf courses to mountain bike tours. Take to the water on a whale-watching or sunset cruise; and get close to the colourful reefs with a snorkel or a scuba tank. Hiking is also popular with three main hiking trails leading into the mountainous interior.
St Lucia can be as lively as you want it to be, in Rodney Bay, there's an excellent West Indian vibe with live music bars, clubs and waterfront restaurants. Nearby, Reduit Beach has calypso nights and beach bars competing for the longest happy hour.
From white sand beaches to tropical rainforests and the distinctive peaks of the Pitons, St Lucia will have you in seventh heaven.
