Surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters it is no surprise that the island of Mauritius is commonly referred to as ‘the Star of the Indian Ocean.’ A diverse island bringing together a number of cultural influences (Indian, French, Creole and Chinese). The mixture of the island's various cultures is reflected in the Mauritian cuisine: spicy curries, tropical fruits and vegetables, Chinese and European food.
The tropical landscape is a mix of jungle-covered mountains, waterfalls, sugarcane fields, white sandy beaches, palm trees, blue lagoons and coral reefs. Mauritius is Paradise. The islands history and lifestyle make this a great place to explore or simply relax in peace and tranquillity.
Mauritius is renowned for some of the most beautiful beaches you will ever visit. Belle Mare is regarded as one of the best and longest beaches (10Km) stretching along the east coast where the spotless white sands seem to go on forever.
While the 4Km of beautiful beaches on the southwest coast can be found at Le Mourne, this coast is also popular for surfing. Le Mourne and Tamarin also have the most stunning waterfalls. Flic en Flac’s beaches are fringed with casuarinas trees and Blue Bay in the southeast is the regarded as the popular place to go for a spot of sunbathing.
There are a great number of leisure activities available, with some great water sport opportunities in Grand Baie windsurfing, sailing and diving or take a Semi-submersible boat out to view some the many reefs surrounding the island. If you prefer to stay on dry land, why not try one of the most popular sports of the island Golf. With some of the most idyllic golf courses the island has to offer with fantastic views of the Indian Ocean you will be transported to golfing heaven.
If you like to shop, you'll appreciate the recent removal of import duty on various goods. Be sure to bring back some bargains with you.
Don’t pass up the opportunity to visit one of the island’s wonderful spas, lie back, relax and let your troubles and care drift away.
