Located 62 miles from Male airport, Sun Island measures about 1.6 km in length and around 380 meters in width.  Transfers time from the airport is 2 hrs 40 minutes by speedboat and 35 minutes by seaplane.

Accommodation

Situated along the islands stunning beaches are the choice of beachfront super deluxe, deluxe or over water bungalow rooms. All Deluxe and Super Deluxe Beach Bungalows are built on the beach ensuring a direct view of the shore and sea. The over water bungalows are magnificent in design, richly chosen and enhanced by breathtaking ocean views. All Water Bungalows are built on stilts in the lagoon overlooking the vast horizon from their private deck.

Super Deluxe Rooms - 218 rooms/units

All Super Deluxe rooms are in blocks of two (25.33 m2 / 272.62 sq ft) with air-conditioning, king size bed, en suite bath facilities with hot & cold desalinated water, bidet, bath tub, hair dryer, veranda/balcony, open shower, mini bar, electronic safe, satellite TV with in-house movies and internet access. IDD Telephones both in room and toilet with voice mail facility. Super deluxe rooms are larger than deluxe rooms.

Water Bungalow - (68 rooms / units)

A wooden jetty leading out over the lagoon takes you this luxurious accommodation built over water (31.62 m2 / 340.39 sq ft). Air-conditioning, hot & cold desalinated water, hair dryer, bidet, bath tub, mini bar, electronic safe, private sun deck, private stair case to the lagoon, satellite TV with in-house movies and internet access. Water Suites (Presidential Suite) – 4 rooms/units

The Water Suites built over water either side of the far end of the jetties provide accommodation for those who want to spend their holiday in top style.  Each unit is made up of two bedrooms; one master bedroom furnished with a double bed and a twin bedroom with en suite bathrooms, living room with private bar with tea and coffee making facilities and a large private terrace with a Jacuzzi and corner bath in both bathrooms.  In addition,  both the rooms have air-conditioning, hot & cold desalinated water, hair dryer, bidet, bath tub, private bar, electronic safe, satellite TV with in-house movies and internet access. Sun Island resort has 5 restaurants including Italian, Thai, 24 hour A La Carte Coffee shop / Southern Star Grill and the Main Restaurant.  Guests enthuse about the huge selection of fresh island fish and seafood.  Each day the Chef features a uniquely themed menu with a mix of local and international favourites, a perfect opportunity to sample new taste sensations.  10 bars, including 24 hr main bar with disco floor, serve a number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and varieties of cocktail.

'Maaniyaa Restaurant' Main Restaurant & Bar

Open daily for guests accommodated on all inclusive terms. The meals are served in Buffet style. The beverage menu covers a wide choice of world wines, fresh and canned juices among other regular premium beverages. This restaurant has a non smoking policy.

'VANI' Coffee Shop & Bar

For light meals, Fishermen's display, Ice creams or simply a variety of international dishes to choose from. Open 24 hrs, the VANI is a perfect setting for guests wishing to linger over morning coffee and afternoon tea while sitting under the palm trees.

Open from 10am till midnight, this restaurant is stunning with an ocean view that's subtly lit up at night. Request a table along the open ocean side edge. This restaurant is also known to be one of the biggest and most elegant food service outlets built over water in the Maldives.  A famous land mark which is worth a visit not only for a dining treat, but also to see the gorgeous stingray gathering spot just near the outlet every evening.

A Specialty restaurant for clients from over water bungalows, which offers a Specialty Indian Menu for those who like spicy food.

'Guraamuli Grill' Terrace & Bar

Offering Fresh Catch of the Day, selection of seafood and prime meat in a charming location near the beach, also popular for BBQs for those guests returning from fishing trips. Open from 10am to midnight.

Ristorante Al Pontile & Bar

How "all inclusive" works:

All types of beverages for personal consumption, served one glass at a time, ordered while at the Main Restaurant, Coffee Shop, Main Bar or Beach Bar.

Beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) can be ordered one at a time and not in advance.

No refund for missed meals will be entertained nor can any benefits of the package be transferred to another guest.

All the guests staying in the same room should be on “all inclusive” basis.

No Alcoholic drinks will be served for person aged below 18.

The “all inclusive” package is available only for the guests entire stay and the guests who cut short their stay will not be refunded.

The hotel cannot be held responsible for the facilities, services and amenities that cannot be used due to weather conditions or due to circumstances beyond our control.

Upon check–in at the resort a wrist bracelet should be worn at all times as an identification of entitlement for the all inclusive services and which should be returned to the front desk cashiers at the time of final settlement.

In case of loss of the bracelet a surcharge of US$20.00 will be charged for a new one.

Our procedure requires billing for all consumption of food & beverage as well as for all other services.

All guests are required to sign the bills that are presented against any service provided.

The benefits of the package can be enjoyed until check-out or check-out time of 1200hrs noon whichever is earlier. In case the transfer gets delayed or advanced due to transfer rescheduling, the clients cannot claim for a refund.

These include floodlight tennis, basketball, volleyball, electronic games, squash, indoor badminton, table tennis etc. Amongst the exciting water-sports activities available are scuba diving, wind surfing, catamaran sailing, and canoeing just to name a few.

A large swimming pool measuring 1800 square meters and children’s pool is set amidst exotic landscaping. It extends right to the edge of the lagoon. Towards the end of the pool is a swim-up bar.

Water Sports

The Water Sports Centre on Sun Island is located on the East Side of the island. It has two toilets, two showers, a small terrace, and workshop, sail and surfboard racks are also available. The beach bar with views to the next door island is 20 metres away. The centre has three English-speaking instructors to assist your lessons.  Rental catamaran and windsurfing, water-ski, knee boarding, banana riding, rental canoe’s (single & double) and Jet Ski riding are the activities offered.  Jets-ski trips and speedboat trips to the other islands also can be organized on request.

Sun Island presents an exciting weekly entertainment programme comprising of live band, disco, Karaoke, competitions, poolside shows and many more events to make your evenings lively and enjoyable.

The Diving School

Located on a small island connected by a wide jetty to the resort, the School is about 30m wide and 12 m deep. Two dry rooms, one A/C classroom, one non-A/C classroom, Two equipment rooms, workshop, compressor room with three Bauer K14 Vertical III compressors, four showers, four toilets, eight changing rooms and lockers are available.

The Diving Centre is equipped with 100 full gears of Scuba equipment, all regulators are with octopus and pressure gauge (for training also depth gauge), 150 tanks (10 litre) and 30 tanks (12 litre), 200 ABC's (mask, snorkel and fins), rental Aladdin diving computers (80 x), under water photo camera's (5 x MX 10) are also available.

Boat Dives are made three times a day, night dives two times a week (or more often on special request), day trips will be scheduled two times a week. The diving boats leave 10-20 metres from the diving school. The boat trips are normally about one hour to the Dhigurah channel. Boats are equipped with radio communication, spare-box, tools, first aid and oxygen set (DAN). For guests' safety surface floats are provided.

Reef Explorer

This is an exploration of the hidden secrets beneath the ocean where the aquamarine beauty and amazing multi-coloured corals and fauna are found. The trip is lead by skilled guides who will take you to the best reefs in the vicinity. Snorkelling equipment is available to rent from diving centre. This equipment is also available to purchase from the souvenir shop.

Fishing Excursions

To acquaint guests with Maldivian customs and way of life, a number of excursions to the neighbouring islands are organised where centuries old culture and simple life style remain unchanged.  Maldivians have relied on fish as a basic food item for its inhabitants for centuries.  Fishing is done from dhonis, wooden boats of excellent craftsmanship manned by a crew of eight to ten men or sometimes fourteen.  Maldivians go fishing everyday when the weather permits, except Fridays. On Fridays they beach the boats and service them, taking time out for noon prayers. The traditional fishing practiced by the Maldivians is an art in itself that has evolved over the centuries.  Excursion guides escort and assist guests during these trips which include tours to the local fishing villages, tourist resorts, uninhabited islands, fishing and reef snorkelling etc. Various types of fishing excursions are offered, including sunrise fishing, sunset fishing and big game fishing.

Dolphin Watch

Dolphin safaris are organised daily, morning and evening, and guests may be lucky enough to witness the rare sight of these fascinating creatures at play.

Glass Bottom Boat

This specially designed boat excursion will allow you to see the coral gardens and exotic underwater beauty in style. Your dream afloat begins upon boarding this boat fitted with overhead protection from the sun and a glass viewer to see the underworld.  Float above the intricate coral heads and wonder at the exotic shapes and hues of tropical fish on this lagoon adventure.

Island Tours

Visits to the neighbouring islands are organized during the week when guests have an opportunity to see the culture of Maldives and its people,  particularly  during the tour to the island of Dhangethi.  Unlike other native islands, it has much to offer visitors, including its Cultural Activity Centre, where Maldivian workmanship is displayed. This includes a number of handicraft activities such as thatch weaving, boat building, lace making etc.
