Location

Set on the cliff top overlooking the world-famous Crane Beach with panoramic views of an azure blue sea, The Crane hotel is conveniently located approximately six minutes drive west of Grantley Adams International Airport, on the South Eastern coast of Barbados.  This strategic location permits the best of all worlds with a comfortable sense of

seclusion, yet a few minutes drive from the main sight seeing destinations.  The Crane also enjoys easy access to the rest of the island with its wide array of golf courses, restaurants, night clubs, shopping and more.

A complementary shuttle service runs to the supermarket twice weekly and on a Thursday to downtown Bridgetown and the famous Oistins fish market every Friday.

Accommodation

The Crane offers two different types of accommodation with ‘1887 Resort’ Apartments and Private Residences.

‘The 1887 Resort’ Apartments

The Crane's original historic hotel (dating back to 1887) boasts charming, spacious oceanfront apartments with hardwood floors, 12' ceilings and exquisite antique furniture. Many rooms in this unique building also feature fully equipped kitchens and wrap-around balconies with spectacular ocean views.

The Crane's four hotel rooms all have bedrooms and private bathrooms. Two of these rooms feature stunning ocean views and one also offers a kitchenette for guests’ convenience. Those hotel rooms that do not feature an ocean view are air-conditioned.

Two of the rooms in this section of the historic hotel can be combined with suites to create a two-bedroom apartment.

The 3 Standard Rooms, the smallest units available at the property, all have bedrooms and private bathrooms. One of these rooms features a stunning ocean view and those hotel rooms that do not feature an ocean view are air-conditioned.  These rooms also feature a mini fridge.

The Crane's Hotel Room Deluxe has a bedroom and private bathroom. This room features a garden and ocean view and also offers a kitchenette for guests’ convenience.

Junior Suites in the original Historic Hotel

The five Suites at The Crane are larger than hotel rooms but smaller than the one-bedroom apartments.

Each suite in the historic hotel features high ceilings, hardwood floors and authentic antique furnishings. All of the suites also have a spectacular ocean view and many have mahogany four-poster beds.

All of the five suites have a lovely ocean view but one. That one suite, however, features a full pool view and access to the main pool through the patio. All suites offer a semi-private sitting room with a fold out sofa bed, bedroom, bathroom and patio.

Private Residences

The Crane's Private Residences seamlessly combine 19th century grandeur with 21st century amenities. They boast the finest in furniture and finishes including hand crafted Barbadian mahogany furniture, objects d’art, king sized beds, spa showers with multiple shower heads, private Jacuzzis, oriental carpets, cable tv’s and DVD players. The setting includes old world coral stone walls, 10' high timber tray ceilings, central air-conditioning and ceiling fans. All ground floor and two-bedroom residences feature private pools, ranging from plunge pools to full-size pools that are 28 ft. in length.

All categories within the Private Residences from one- to three-bedrooms offer amazing ocean views and junior suites offer a garden view.

One Bedroom Suites

The Crane's one-bedroom standard suites all have a private sitting room, private bathroom, full kitchen facilities, a spacious bedroom and large patio with breathtaking ocean views.

Most one-bedroom suites are not air-conditioned as the tropical sea breeze, coral stone walls and high ceilings help to cool them all year round. One-bedroom suites comfortably sleep four adults using the pull out sofa bed in the private sitting room.

Standard one-bedroom apartments feature a beautiful sea view from one side of the apartment and some have a garden view on the other side. Two of these rooms can be combined with Hotel Rooms to create a two-bedroom apartment.

The One Bedroom plunge pool suites boast a corner location.  Some are located on the ground floor and have a private 9' X 14' "disappearing edge" pool. Other one-bedroom ocean view suites with plunge pool are located within the towers ranging from second to fourth floor.  All rooms have a large balcony, sun lounger, chairs, table and spectacular ocean views.

One Bedroom Ocean View Penthouse

All One Bedroom Penthouses feature stone tile floors, offer central air-conditioning throughout, will sleep four adults with the included pull-out sofa bed and have two full bathrooms.   All One Bedroom Penthouses are located on the fifth floor, have a large balcony, sun loungers, chairs, table, roof terrace and spectacular ocean views.

The Bedroom has a four-poster king sized mahogany bed, hand-crafted Barbadian mahogany furniture, a 36" Cable TV with DVD player and a computer desk with direct dial phone and Internet access. Floor-to-ceiling cedar doors with adjustable louvered shutters offer guests the opportunity to walk directly out onto the private patio or simply enjoy the sight of the Atlantic Ocean while relaxing in bed.

The Bathroom continues to mix luxury and comfort with a separate toilet room, double sink, marble walls and floors, an all glass and marble shower stall, large closets and a programmable wall safe. The Champagne Air Jacuzzi, with built-in aromatherapy capabilities, is positioned to allow guests to soak leisurely while looking directly out onto the ocean. The double-sized spa shower has five multi-purpose showerheads that can surround the bather in a refreshing cascade of water or be set to administer a full body therapeutic water massage.

The Kitchen boasts all of the comforts of home and then some. State-of-the-art appliances and a full compliment of crockery and cutlery line the shelves and Granite counter-tops. The marble floor, four-person breakfast bar, oversized pantry and private washer/dryer perfect the blend of affluence and convenience in this room.

The Living and Dining Rooms put a spacious 23'10" X 13'4" area at the guests’ disposal, with hardwood floors and a 13' x 9' wide view to the sea. The entertainment center houses a 32" Cable TV, and DVD player. A pull-out sofa, full guest bath, formal hand-carved mahogany dining room table and side board, chandelier lighting, ceiling fans, and traditional artwork add the finishing touches.

Two Bedroom Suites

Two-bedroom standard suites at The Crane are made up of a one-bedroom standard suite and hotel room joined by a connecting door. They have a private sitting room with a fold out sofa bed, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a large balcony with an ocean view. These apartments sleep six adults with the pull out sofa bed.

Some of the rooms and one-bedroom suites were part of the original manor house, Marine Villa, or feature coral stone walls and high ceilings that are over 200 years old.

Standard two-bedroom apartments boast a striking sea view from one side of the apartment and a garden view from the opposite side.

Deluxe two-bedroom apartments occupy a corner location with expansive verandas and panoramic sea views. There are also two Bedroom Ocean View rooms with 14” Pool and two Bedroom Ocean View rooms with a 28” Pool.

Junior Suite with Garden View

Some Suites have hardwood flooring throughout while other units feature stone tile floors.  All Junior Garden View Suites contain handcrafted king-size four poster beds and mahogany furnishings, floor-to-ceiling cedar doors with adjustable louvered shutters, traditional Barbadian coral stone walls, air-conditioning, direct dial telephone, iron and ironing board, safety deposit box, and data port access.

Junior Garden View Suites have a bay window seating area with two soft chairs, Cable TV & VCR, a mini-kitchen with mini fridge, sink, coffee maker, toaster and a blender, some rooms also feature a hot plate and microwave.  All rooms have a private marble bathroom with shower and jacuzzi bath, separate toilet room, single vanity, hair dryer and razor point and a balcony or terrace with two chairs, a table.  Some Junior Garden View Suites also have a large sofa bed.

Two and three Bedroom Ocean View Penthouse

Offer a combination of a Junior Garden View Suite and a 1 Bedroom Ocean View Penthouse.  Or a spacious 2 or 3 Bedroom Ocean View Penthouse featuring a Master bedroom and 1 Bedroom and a second bedroom offers two twin beds and ensuite bathroom with shower.  Combination rooms feature two four poster king size beds with a mini kitchen as well as a fully equipped kitchen.  Some of the units offer a roof terrace or private plunge pool, while some feature both.

Villas

Located within the extensive grounds of The Crane Resort are the Penthouse Villas. Each villa ranges in size from 2,900 to 4,000 sq. ft. of luxurious space, features three- bedroom and four- bathroom suites which open up to the expansive yet private balcony and plunge pool with spectacular ocean views. They are centrally air-conditioned throughout, with some Penthouse Villas offering roof terraces for private sunbathing and outdoor grilling.

The Penthouse Villas’ unique setting within the resort offers discerning guests a unique vacation experience. Guests enjoy the best of both worlds with the space and comfort of an exclusive villa and the services of a first class resort, all at an affordable price. Guests have at their disposal access to standard hotel amenities and services, including in room hospitality and spa treatments and use of pools and pool bar, while still having their own private villa. Guests may also arrange to have the villa stocked with groceries of their choice, prior to arrival, through the resort’s full-service Concierge department.

Penthouse Villas

A sofa, with a pull out sofa bed enables this Villa to comfortably sleep 8 adults with its floor to ceiling cedar doors with adjustable louvered shutters, vaulted cathedral ceilings, hardwood or stone tile floors, hand crafted Barbadian mahogany furniture and Cable TV and DVD. There is a safety deposit box, iron and ironing board, data port access and direct dial phone. There is one Master bedroom and 2 guest bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a four- poster king size bed, a private bathroom, separate toilet room, large dressing area with spacious wardrobe, Cable TV and DVD and writing desk.

The Guest rooms has a four- poster king size bed, and the other offers two twin sized beds. With a spacious living area and an additional area ideal for entertaining featuring a large Cable TV and DVD Player. There are 4 marble bathrooms, 2 of which offer Jacuzzi baths and spa showers with multiple shower heads. The master bathroom features a double vanity.

This accommodation has a spacious kitchen with Island, Granite counter tops and a full compliment of crockery and cutlery and comes fully equipped with the state of the art appliances including a fridge freezer, ice dispenser, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher and washer dryer.

The Dining Room has a hand crafted Mahogany dining table, seating eight, and sideboard, chandelier lighting, ceiling fans and traditional artwork.

Restaurants and Bars

L'Azure Restaurant

Famous for its fresh seafood and panoramic sea views with open air dining and deck, L’azure serves up a tempting range of classic and Caribbean delicacies. This restaurant has achieved several distinctions including two silver awards at the Barbados Hotel and Dining Festival and À La Carte Magazine's prestigious Gold Award for Light Cuisine.

From seafood to mouth-watering desserts, The Crane maintains its long-held reputation for elegant dining. The atmosphere speaks of elegance and beauty as patrons sit inside or on the balcony where they can view spectacular Crane Beach in all its splendour while they dine.

There is a wonderful Sunday brunch with live Caribbean gospel music in the morning and a traditional Barbadian Sunday buffet lunch with steel band.

Zen restaurant

Newly opened in late 2005 is Zen Featuring classic Thai and Japanese cuisine in a stunning, air conditioned setting overlooking Crane Beach.  The Zen features traditional Tatami rooms, an exquisite sushi bar and the option for guests to enjoy private dining.

Carriage House Poolside Restaurant

The Carriage House was once the official stable of the historic "Crane Beach Hotel" over 100 years ago. From the menu, one can expect to be served up a variety of light and delectable food items and tropical cocktails throughout the day. This area is suitable for cocktail events and can be transformed from a casual atmosphere to one of elegance and extravagance. 

Meal Basis

The Crane is not an all-inclusive resort but offers a European plan for adults and children comprising two types of meal plan:-  the breakfast plan or the half board plan (breakfast & dinner).  Please also note that supplement charges will apply to certain items on the menu, special events or holidays and that meal plan rates do not include beverages.

Activities and Amenities

Below the cliff, the 300 yard coral-sand beach faces the Atlantic Ocean with a wading depth extending out approximately 75 yards and protected by a natural coral reef, Crane Beach boasts one of the best swimming venues on the island of Barbados as the offshore reef calms ocean swells in most types of weather.

Once you gaze out over the sparkling waters of Crane Beach at the never-ending vista of blues, it becomes obvious why The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous declared the Crane Beach "one of the ten best beaches in the world".

Pink, powder soft sand graces your feet, a lush coconut grove sways in the tropical breeze and a golden Caribbean sun help to make this the ultimate paradise with luxury umbrellas and lounge chairs dotting the beach.

Besides being safe and having a gentle descent from shallow to deep the beach is also soft on your feet as there are no sea urchins, stones or coral underneath. The only surprise you might have is the occasional turtle swimming along the outer perimeters.

Overlooking the ocean from the cliff, the 85 x 40-ft pool is fronted by Roman-style columns and surrounded by a marble sundeck with umbrellas and thickly cushioned lounge chairs. Famous for it's cliff top position, the pool at The Crane  overlooks the scenic Crane Beach and allows one the unique pleasure of relaxing in watery comfort while watching the wild beauty of the Atlantic ocean, it has a maximum depth of ten feet. Professional photography sessions featuring the stunning cliff edge pool are routinely requested, but are severely limited to protect guests' privacy. This beautiful and tranquil setting boasts one of the most unique sea views in the world

As part of its rest-and-relaxation theme, the resort offers few group activities except for complimentary garden tours and Friday-night stargazing sessions with an astronomer (at a surcharge).

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the resort (fees may apply).

Golfing nearby - The 18-hole Barbados Golf Club is 12 km (7.5 mi) away.

Surfing/boogie boarding on site and guests enjoy complimentary use of boogie boards.

Swimming on site - The resort has recently opened a new 1.5 acre multi-cascading pool complex, with a spectacular setting against the rugged cliff face of the Atlantic.

The new pools encompass 300,000 gallons of swimmable water.  Offering fabulous views from several different pool decks, three free-form lagoon pools are now set into the cliff side, connected by a series of three waterfalls, one falling 15 feet over a rubble wall with a seating area under the waterfall.  At the top of this area, a fourth infinity edge pool sits between two restored ruins and features spectacular views of both the resort and the sea.  This infinity pool is backed by a fish pond and cascading waterfall.

Fitness Centre

Currently the hotel offers a small work out room with exercise machines with plans for an expanded fitness centre in the Crane Town Centre by late 2008.  A full-service resort spa is planned later in the development.  Currently, the concierge department will be happy to arrange in-room spa treatments at your convenience and will be pleased to reserve activities for you off site .

Babysitting

Private baby -sitting services can be arranged at a separate cost, in the comfort of your room, however, organized children’s facilities are not catered for.

Disabled facilities

The Crane hotel is accessible through the provision of elevators and ramps in various locations.  Our spacious rooms also offer flexibility for you to easily manoeuvre around your unit.  However, assistance will be required to access some areas.  Please note that Crane Beach is not currently handicapped accessible, but the elevators to the beach are under development.  

Weddings & Honeymoons

Whether you wish to say "I do" in the beauty of nature, or just enjoy a romantic Caribbean honeymoon The Crane is the ideal place offering the ideal accommodation and naturally beautiful setting for an idyllic honeymoon. The special welcome for honeymooners includes fresh flowers in-suite and a chilled bottle of wine on arrival. 

Meeting Facilities

The Crane hotel can host your next conference or meeting event and takes pride in offering the best of services whilst competitively priced, in a luxury setting.

On completion of The Crane’s redevelopment, the property will feature a total of four function suites, varying from an executive style boardroom to meeting facilities to accommodate up to 220 persons.  The present facility, the historic Pavilion Room, dates back to the late 1800s, and adjoins L’Azure Restaurant.  The new function suites will be located within The Crane Village, which will also house retail shops, a new reception and additional dining facilities.
